Port of Koper reports stable development

Growing throughput at Port of Koper in January 2009

Goods throughput at the Slovenian Port of Koper beat expectations in January 2009. With a total volume of 1.5 million tons last year’s figure was exceeded by 10 per cent. According to the port operator this is the result of growth in fuel throughput and of the product groups “Perishables” and “Silo Bulk“. Container throughput achieved last year’s level of 26,751 TEU. However automobile throughput showed a sharp decline of 63 per cent.

At the end of last week the first large container vessel was dispatched at the new berth 7c on the extension of Pier 1. The first customer was the French shipping line CMA CGM. The vessel loaded and unloaded a total of 2,252 TEU. The new berth allows handling vessels with a maximum capacity of 8,000 TEU.
