Hapag-Lloyd increases fees for important traffics

The customers of the German liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd will have to face a rise in prices. “Transport fees around the globe attained a level that is no longer cost-covering. In order to be able to continue providing to customers a reliable service as before and a dense route network we decided to increase fees for important traffics”, as the Management explained the motives for this measure in a press release.

New tariff rates for incoming services from East Asia, based on Hong Kong to Mediterranean / Europe (westbound trade) will be USD1,000 for a 20′, USD 2,000 for a 40′ and USD 2,100 for a 40′ high cube container with effect from April 1st, 2009. At the same time new tariff rates for services from Europe to Asia will be implemented: USD 250 (20’) and USD 500 (40’) respectively. These rates include the bunker and currency surcharge. Further increases are planned for both directions in the course of this year.

Rates for services from Canada, US East Coast, Gulf and Mexico to and from Europe or the Mediterranean will be raised by USD 160 for a 20′ and USD 200 for a 40′ container from April 1, 2009. To and from the US West Coast rates will be increased by USD 240 for a 20’ container and USD 300 for a 40′ container. For refrigerated containers rates will increase by USD 240 for a 20’ and USD 300 for a 40’ container to and from Canada, US East Coast, Gulf and Mexico. To and from US West Coast the respective increase is USD 400 for a 20’ and 500 for a 40’ container.

Rates for services from Europe to Oceania (Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific) will be increased by EUR 200 for a 20′ container and EUR 400 for a 40′ container as of May 1st, 2009.
