Container depot at Ennshafen wins MSC as a new customer

Location at Ennshafen port completes Austrian container depot network of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company

With immediate effect the Ennshafen port counts all reputable liner shipping companies among its customers in the field of container depot. On 10 September MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has integrated the inland port at the border between the Laender Upper and Lower Austria into its global network.

For Ennshafen this is an enormous potential of development regarding the expansion of block train services to the sea ports, and also the service improvement for shippers. In the period from January to August 2010 the Ennshafen container terminal handled 145,551 TEU (41 per cent more than in the previous year). Water to land throughput amounted to 423,788 tons, and beat the result of 2008 (380,368 tons).

MSC operates currently 419 container vessels with a total capacity of around 1,734,000 TEU and has direct links to 6 continents and 335 ports worldwide. On 200 liner services they transport about 10 million TEU per year. Established in 1970 the private enterprise was able to win new customers, who are handling their business activities at the Ennshafen container terminal. This was crucial for the establishment of the MSC depot at Ennshafen.
