Difficult environment with Eurogate Group

Due to the difficult market environment Eurogate Group (Bremen) recorded a considerable down in container throughput. Between January and June 2009 exactly 6.284 million TEU were handled at the terminals in Germany, Italy, Portugal and Morocco; which is 10.1 per cent less than in the same period last year.

The German Eurogate-locations felt the impact of the global economic crisis the most. In Bremerhaven volume dropped 20.8 per cent to 2.133 million TEU. The Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg recorded a decline in container shipments of 17.1 per cent to 1.137 million TEU.

The locations of the Contship Italia Group profit from the positive development in throughput at the CICT in Cagliari. They show 2.73 million TEU in the half-year report, which equals a slight decline of 2.9 per cent. In Portugal 102,741 TEU (minus 11.7 per cent) were recorded, in Morocco 180,465 TEU.
