Aeroflot Cargo gone bankrupt

Aeroflot restructures freight business

After two years as an independent enterprise the story of Aeroflot Cargo ends. The company has been declared bankrupt according to a decision of the Aeroflot Supervisory Board. Aeroflot wants to take over the operative business unit itself. Also parts of the aircraft fleet will be taken over by the parent company. Older leased aircrafts will be put out of service. They are no longer needed due to the sunken freight volumes.

Aeroflot Cargo has debts amounting to around EUR 115 million at its parent company Aeroflot. The enterprise registered losses during the whole period of its existence. The economic crisis finally put the enterprise off its stride. In April freight volume was down 31 per cent compared to the previous year. According to Aeroflot the profit zone was far out of reach.
