Vienna International Airport registeres significant slowdown in air cargo

The Vienna International Airport (VIE) is also registering a significant decline in airfreight business. In January 2009 cargo throughput (air cargo + trucking) showed a year-on-year drop of 22.7 per cent to 16,233 tons, as the Executive Management of the Vienna International Airport AG announced in a press release.

According to the paper Austria’s biggest commercial airport had to accept a 12.1%-decline to 1.155 million passengers in January 2009. This was mainly due to the minus in travel to Eastern Europe amounting to -15.9 per cent. The number of flight movements dropped by 9.3 per cent to 18,973 take-offs and landings.
