Expansion of rail facilities at Danube port Enns

Ennshafen implements anticipated investment programme

With the ground-braking ceremony for the expansion of the interchange station and the construction of new block train tracks, a few days ago Ennshafen started its investment offensive, which is budgeted with EUR 9 million. “Thanks to the Upper Austrian economic package we were able to anticipate this large project to 2009. The measures will have their impacts on economy and jobs and will strengthen our enterprise when the crisis will be overcome“, said Dr. Josef Pühringer, Governor of Upper Austria.

In the following months financial means at the amount of around EUR 3.8 million will flow into the expansion of the interchange station and into the creation of 1,980 metres of additional track facilities at Ennshafen. “This allows us to carry out shunting works more efficiently“, BR Gottfried Kneifel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Ennshafen, gave an outlook.

In addition to the expansion of the rail tracks the Supervisory Board approved investments at the amount of EUR 5.15 million to erect a new quay wall at the western port basin. The 360-metres Kai 21 will be constructed on an unfortified area at the western port basin next to Kai 20.
