Established in 1948, the international logistics service provider Geis showed its strength with a 19.4 per cent increase in turnover in the year 2010. Net turnover amounted to EUR 631.9 million, which is a new record level. Hence the associate managers Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis are satisfied with the results. Both emphasise that Geis was able to increase its turnover to a pre-crisis level thanks to its wide range of services and customer closeness combined with high quality.

Also the number of employees has risen: At the end of 2010 the group employed at its 87 locations in Europe 3,420 persons, which is 180 more than a year before. “In the transport logistics as well as the transport segment additional staff was recruited“, Hans-Georg Geis informs. In the transport segment the number of orders has risen by around 23 per cent. In total the Geis Group handled around 11.5 million transport orders, more than half of it being parcel consignments. As for moved tonnage, growth was even bigger. In 2010 they transported 3.12 million tons of goods, 30 per cent up compared to 2009.

Air and sea services accounted for the biggest growth with 38.1 per cent. Contract logistics improved 20.1 per cent. Road services, this is where Geis bundles German and European-wide road transportations, grew 7.8 per cent. All three business segments of the Geis Group were ablte to post black figures.

This positive development continues throughout the current year. The number of consignments rose 9 per cent in January and February, compared to 2010. In the coming months the private corporate group with its headquarters in Bad Neustadt in Franconia opens two new logistics centres each in Germany and the Czech Republic.
