“Railway record“ with the Czech AWT group

Czech AWT group surpasses the benchmark of 1 billion ton-kilometres on the rail in 2011

In 2011 the private Czech AWT group reached a milestone in its company history. The company’s transport performance exceeded one billion ton-kilometres in rail transport (1.018 billion), marking a year on year increase of nearly one tenth.

However, the most rapid growth occurred in combined road/rail transport. Nearly 43,000 containers and swap bodies passed the AWT terminal in Ostrava-Paskov in 2011. That represents an increase of almost 115 per cent compared to 2010.

The core business of the AWT group is the transport of primary materials by rail, such as coal, steel, chemical products and timber. The group operates locations in eight countries and has a network of partners and business representatives across Europe, the Middle East as well as overseas. The Group employs almost 2,500 staff, and its annual revenues reach CZK 10 billion (about EUR 401.6 million). The freight forwarding division AWT Cechofracht, a former public company, provides services in rail, road, sea and air transport, and related logistics services.
