Scandlines is to cease RoRo-liner service

Scandlines RoRo-service from Jütland to Lithuania to be cancelled

The RoRo-liner service operated by the shipping company Scandlines between Aarhus-Aabenraa in Jütland (Denmark) and Klaipeda (Lithuania) is facing its end. The route is to be ceased by mid-December. The Management of the ferry shipping company explained this measure by the considerable decline in transport volumes combined with a collapse in market prices.

These two trends plus a tremendous rise in costs make it impossible to operate the route in the future profitably. Moreover, no long-term improvement of the situation is to be expected due to the European financial crisis, as the Management of Scandlines announced in a press release.
