Strong uptrend with container shipping company OOCL

OOCL container shipping company from Hong Kong profits from the economic upswing in Asia

 

A clear uptrend becomes visible with the Hong Kong-based container shipping company OOCL. In the first half of 2010 the enterprise posted increases in transport volumes and sales revenues. The profit after taxes of the parent company OOIL was clearly positive with USD 287 million. In the period from January to June 2009 this item showed a loss at the amount of USD 219 million.

In the reporting period OOCL transported 2.23 million TEU, which is 11.6 per cent above last year’s figure. Volumes on the routes between Asia and Europe rose 10.9 per cent to 371,501 TEU. “Intra-Asia/Australasian“-trade increased by 17.5 per cent to 1.098 million TEU, while Trans-Atlantic traffic was up 3.9 per cent to 176,219 TEU. OOCL’s sales revenues amounted to USD 2.52 billion (up 38.7 per cent). In the first half of the year 2010 the shipping company has taken over nine newbuildings – four container vessels with a capacity of 8,063 TEU each and five units of 4,578 TEU each.
