Substantial decline in cargo throughput at Port of Koper

Port of Koper records stable level in container traffic
 

The Slovenian Port of Koper recorded a decline in cargo throughput of 21.1 per cent in comparison to last year to 6.36 million tons between January and June 2009. According to statistics, the main factor therefore is the import volume that dropped 24.6 per cent to 4.66 million tons. Exportations amounted to 1.69 million tons, which is 10.1 per cent below the reference figure of 2008.

In vehicle business Port of Koper had to accept heavy losses. In the reporting period 140,676 cars passed the quay walls. In the first six months of 2008 this item showed 314,595 units. Container traffic remained on a relatively stable level. Volumes in this segment dropped from 170,937 TEU (January – July 2008) to 165,220 TEU.
