Two new RoPax ferries operate for Minoan Lines

Greek Minoan Lines consolidates position in Adriatic Sea

The Greek ferry shipping company Minoan Lines puts two new RoPax ferries into operation. In October “Cruise Europa“ will join the fleet. In summer 2010 “Cruise Olympia“ is to follow. “Both newly constructed units will be deployed on the route from Ancona to Igoumenitsa and Patras v. v. “,Lucas Sigalas, Director International Sales & Marketing Minoan Lines, announced at a press reception in Vienna. The investment for the RoPax ferries that provide capacities fort he transport of 3,000 passengers and 180 trucks amounted to around EUR 350 million.

Minoan Lines is headquartered in Heraklion on the island of Crete and is the leading Greek ferry shipping company in the Adriatic Sea (4 course pairs per week on the Venice-Igoumenitsa-Corfu-Patras route; daily service on the Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras route) and on the route from Piraeus to Heraklion.

Established in 1972 the company has become an affiliate of the Grimaldi Group in Naples since last year. The whole group operates 120 vessels and calls at about 120 ports on four continents. IN 2008 Grimaldi Group achieved a turnover of EUR 2.5 billion.
