Yusen Logistics: New globalist with Japanese roots

Fusion of NYK Logistics and Yusen & Air Sea Service into Yusen Logistics to be implemented step-by-step

Following a long time of preparation, the fusion of NYK Logistics and Yusen Air & Sea into Yusen Logistics is about to enter the stage of implementation. The two enterprises have closed ranks in Japan with effect from 1 October 2010. „This marks the start of the global integration of all activities of NYK Logistics and Yusen Air & Sea Service into Yusen Logistics. The merger of the European affiliates is to start on 1 April 2011 and shall be finished before 31 March 2012“, the two companies state in a joint press release.

Yusen Logistics will be globally managed by five regional headquarters (Japan, East Asia, South Asia and Oceania, Europe and America). This structure documents the global presence as well as the local competence of the enterprise. In Germany, NYK Logistics and Yusen Air & Sea Service have been represented by their own houses and logistics centres for more than 20 years.

In their new enterprise Yusen Logistics, NYK Logistics and Yusen Air & Sea join their global presence and expertise in the fields of air freight, sea freight, land transport and contract logistics. For their customers this opens access to an integrated One-Stop-Service of the full range of logistics services, based on a global network with 15,000 employees at 431 stations with 2.34 million m² of covered warehousing area.

„With this step we aim at reaching an even higher service quality and presence in our two main business fields air/sea freight and contract logistics. Our solutions that are adjusted to the special needs of our business parters will increase the efficiency for customers“, Shunichi Yano, Global President of Yusen Logistics, outlines the motives for the merger of the two companies.
