DB Schenker optimises RFS-operation in Vienna

 
New DB Schenker building in Vienna-Albern is new airfreight hub

DB Schenker just started to erect an additional building at the terminal Vienna-Albern. After finishing the terminal will offer the most modern equipment for composing and deconsolidating of air cargo pallets and better safety instalments according to the TAPA-Standard. In the future the road feeder services from and to Vienna will pass this location what will improve processes and increase productivity, as Elmar Wieland, Chief Executive Officer of Schenker & CO AG Austria and south-eastern Europe, recently announced in Vienna. “The direct throughput of air cargo pallets at the location in Albern will reduce the risk of damage. The immediate feeding of goods into the distribution system after deconsolidation reduces costs”, he added. Until now manipulation of large air cargo pallets was only possible at the Vienna Airport.

In Vienna DB Schenker employs 550 persons at the locations Hoher Markt (headquarters Austria and south-eastern Europe), Albern, Freudenau and Nordwestbahnhof. Together they achieve an annual turnover of around EUR 120 million. In Albern 287 employees dispatched around 685,000 consignments in 2007. The locations is mainly serving as a hub for truck traffic, sea freight and warehouse logistics. After finishing of the expansion a 16,400 square metres logistics warehouse and a throughput facility with 8,400 square metres of covered area will be available.
