DB Schenker reinforces sensor technology for sea freight

Expanded sea freight surveillance offer with DB Schenker

DB Schenker is further expanding its service offer of consignments surveillance in international cargo transport. The DB SCHENKERsmartbox is a satellite-based real time shipment tracking system combined with sensor technology for sea cargo that is to be established on a broad scale. The new solution transmits current GPS coordinates (Global Positioning System) and, as the case may be, course deviations and other safety parameters, such as temperature, vibrations, activities at the door of a container or light inside of it.

“Our product is one-of-a-kind on the market. It has proven effective in practice and is in use on all of the world’s main trade lanes. Increased transparency creates the potential to optimize the planning of complex transport chains and to reduce transit time, which is of key importance for particularly valuable shipments.”,” underscores Christopher Regenhardt, Corporate Manager, DB SCHENKERsmartbox, Schenker AG.

GPS technology has already been used to successfully monitor several hundred ocean-freight containers on routes between Asia, Europe and America. In particular insurance companies use the new system to monitor containers transporting very valuable items.
