Global mega contract for Geodis thanks to takeover of IBM Global Logistics

The cooperation of IBM and the French Geodis Group that had so far been concentrated to Europe is about to be expanded geographically. Geodis will control the global logistic services of „Big Blue“ in the fields of procurement and distribution. Top representatives of the two enterprises signed a promising contract for a non-defined duration last week. In the context of the enhanced cooperation Geodis will assume the activities and take over the 1,200 employees of IBM Global Logistics. The transaction is planned to be concluded successfully within the first three months of the year 2009.

In the future Geodis will attend to the global supply chain management of IBM. The tasks are ranging from transportations and warehousing operations in the fields of procurement and distribution (including customs clearance) to the spare parts and reverse logistics. The services agreed upon amount to an annual contract volume of about EUR 1 billion. Being affiliated to the SNCF Transport and Logistics Division (50,000 employees generate an annual turnover of EUR 8.5 billion), Geodis counts among the leading providers of transportation and logistics services in Europe. In 2007 the enterprise had 25,500 employees and generated a turnover of EUR 4.7 billion.
