RWZ and Rhenus close ranks in bulk cargo logistics

On 31 July 2009 Raiffeisen Waren-Zentrale Rhein-Main eG and the international logistics service provider Rhenus AG & Co. KG set up a joint enterprise. The target is to reach the maximum amount of efficiency and market penetration in bulk cargo logistics. The joint venture was named RSL (Rhenus RWZ Schüttgut Logistik GmbH) and will act in the market under the leadership of Sascha Hähnke (Managing Director Road of Rhenus Port Logistics) and Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt (Manager GB Logistik of RWZ) at the office in Hanau. 

The cooperative is focussed on the implementation of road transportations throughout Germany and Europe. “Considering the large number of sites operated by both founding companies, also other transport means, like river shipping or rail transport, can be used on short term without causing any problems. Therefore further services like handling and storage can be offered as well“, as the company emphasises in a press release. 

RSL acts as a neutral logistic service provider in the market. The large potential for joint, long-term growth however, is generated by the concentrated know how of both associates. The newly established enterprise plans to implement their transportations with an own fleet – equipped with the latest telematic solutions – and by operating sub-companies. In doing so the cooperation partners’ target is to make processes as efficiently as possible. 

Having around 2,500 employees at more than 230 locations, RWZ is Germany’s third-largest main agricultural association. The business area covers large parts of North Rhine Westphalia, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony, as well as Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It comprises 170 member associations with around 70,000 farmers, wine-growers and landscape gardeners. Moreover RWZ acts on behalf of numerous private clients as a building material and fuel retailer and as an operator of home and gardening centres.
