Scandlines cuts up to 400 jobs

Scandlines Group launches harsh streamlining programme

The Scandlines ferry shipping line started a streamlining programme to stem the effects of the global economic and financial crisis. The Management announced measures to reduce costs and increase efficiency at a meeting with the competent trade union in Rostock. In addition in the course of a reorganisation up to 400 of the current 2,400 jobs within the group will be cut.

“Our market environment changed dramatically within the last few months. Therefore we have to adapt our enterprise strategy to the modified conditions in short term. This is the only way to secure our economic success and with this the preservation of jobs on the long term”, said Michael F. Hassing, CEO Scandlines GmbH. The enterprise reckons with a further decline in transport volume in all services for the current year.
