Grimaldi and Flota Suardiaz form joint venture

Grimaldi Suardiaz plans to expand RoRo-service from Livorno to Barcelona

With a joint venture the shipping companies Grimaldi Group (Neapel) and Flota Suardiaz (Madrid), which are established in the RoRo-shipping industry, expand the seaway traffic between Italy and the Spanish region Catalonia. The newly established company Grimaldi Suardiaz will operate a liner service on the connection between the Ports of Livorno and Barcelona from January 1, 2009. At the moment the Grimaldi Group is covering this route with three weekly departures. The partnership with Flota Suardiaz allows the group to double the frequency of departures, according to the market demand.

The RoRo-route from Livorno to Barcelona and back serves as a junction between the economic regions in Central/Eastern Europe (Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania) and the Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal). Analogous to the connection from Patras (Greece) to Ancona, the Grimaldi Group refers to the route as a „long bridge“.
