Qatar Airways steps up service for Southeastern Europe

Bulgaria’s capital Sofia to be integrated into the global route network of the strongly expanding Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is about to introduce another Southeast European metropolis into its global route network. CEO Akbar Al Baker announced the opening of a flight link to Sofia v. v. yesterday. Bulgaria’s capital will be connected to Doha four times per week effective 14 September. Budapest and Bucharest are serviced regularly since January. „By introducing Sofia into our schedule, we are serving a market that has so far been underserved“, said Al Baker.

Qatar Airways is implementing a strong international expansion in 2011. In addition to the above-named European routes they have also integrated the destinations Brussels and Stuttgart into their flight schedule in the past weeks. Oslo in Norway (from 5 October) and Calcutta in Eastern India (effective 27 July) are to follow these destinations. The same applies to Shiraz in Iran (effective 5 June), Venice (effective 15 June) and Montreal (effective 29 June). Qatar Airways operates a daily service from Doha to Vienna and return.
